HOW TO KICK YOUR JANUARY INTO SHAPE

Overindulged a little at Christmas?

We do it every year.

And every year we say the same thing: "I need to get in lose weight in the New Year".

But surprisingly a lot of people fall off the wagon before they even start.

Need some help to kickstart your January fitness goals?

Follow our 10 tips to kickstart your January and get into shape. 1. Just start.

We often talk a good health and fitness goal: “I need to lose a stone after Christmas” or “I’m joining slimming world - again”. Instead of talking about it, just start.

2. Throw out all the junk and party food you have left in the house.

Give it away if you have to. Don’t eat another thing. Be strict with yourself. I know people who still have chocolate from last Christmas. Get rid of it all or you’ll be tempted.

3. Don’t join a gym!

What? Statistics show that 78% of people who join a gym in January will quit. Instead look at your current eating and exercise habits and make small changes.

4. Don’t go on a crash/fad diet.

Slimming clubs and people who sell diet shakes and pills prey on people who want to lose their Christmas weight. Don’t fall for it. It will last for about 2 weeks then once you stop seeing results or get bored of it, you’ll revert back to your old habits.

They are selling you a product. They don’t educate you with information on how to keep the weight off for good.

5. Do some form of exercise every day.

Go for a brisk walk or run. There’s plenty of fitness videos on line that will get your heart rate up.

6. Cook from scratch.

Try to avoid processed foods that have too much sugar and calories in them. Instead use one-ingredient foods where possible and cook from scratch, so you know what goes into your meals.

7. Prepare your food in advance.

This saves you from thinking what to cook after a long day. Also will stop you from getting a takeaway or grabbing something ‘convenient’ from the supermarket on the way home from work.

8. Avoid alcohol.

By now we should have had enough alcohol over the festive period, so if you really want to kick start your January, stay away from the booze.

9. Make small, sustainable habitual changes.

This could be as small as going for a 5-10 minute walk each lunchtime, or cutting down on tea or coffee. Once you have that habit down, move on to another.

10. Follow the above 9 tips to kick start your January.

So there you have it. Our simple, but effective 10 tips to kick start your January. Thanks for reading. We hope that we can help you make a difference this New Year.
