They give us hope that there is a short-cut to get to our perfect weight/size, but it’s not an enjoyable process.
You will most likely have to cut out all of your favourite foods, treats, alcohol (Nooo I hear you cry!) which will make you cranky, moody, tired (if you cut out carbs for example), and mostly bloody hungry – Which we do not want that!
So, Mike, how do diets work?
There’s generally one thing diets have in common: They force you to cut your calories, or put you into a calorie deficit, which causes you to intake less than your body burns day to day, and therefore you will lose weight over time.
You may have heard ‘No carbs before Marbs’, basically meaning that people cut out carbohydrates before going on holiday to Marbella.
This isn’t a magic potion.
You are cutting down/out on carbohydrates and effectively losing 500-800 calories, hence you will lose weight.
The same happens if you go on a ‘low-fat’ diet – You reduce the number of ‘fat’ calories, and therefore your over-all calorie intake will be lower, and therefore you will lose weight.
Weight-watchers, Slimming World, Keto, Cambridge, Shake Diets, they all put you into a calorie deficit, making you eat less and lose weight.
There is no magic pill, shake, powder or anything else that will make you lose weight.
